Davis was born in Boulder, Colorado.[1] An only child, her parents divorced when she was a baby and she was adopted by her stepfather after he married her mother in 1968. Early in her childhood Kristin and her parents moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where her adoptive father served as provost and taught psychology at the University of South Carolina. She lived in South Carolina until she graduated from A.C. Flora High School in 1983. She then moved to New Jersey, where she attended Rutgers University.
After graduation in 1987, Davis moved to New York and waited tables before opening a yoga studio with a friend. In 1995 she got her big break when she landed the role of Brooke Armstrong Campbell on Melrose Place. She left the show after one year when producers found that viewers hated her bitchy character. Davis also had roles in other television series including Friends and Seinfeld. In 1998, Kristin was cast as Charlotte York in "Sex and the City", of which she remained an integral cast member until the series ended in 2004. She has also hosted the VH1 show 200 Greatest Pop Culture Icons.
Preparations are already underway for a Sex and the City feature film. HBO is currently in negotiations with executive producer Michael Patrick King and the cast from the TV series of the same name, including Davis.[2]
Personal life
Davis was introduced to alcohol early. It left her with a liking that turned into an excess need, and from which she battled back: "I'm 12 years sober, so I don't have beer! When I used to drink I really liked Bass Ale!"
Having admitted to a preference for dating actors, her ex-boyfriend list is high profile and extensive, including: Alec Baldwin (with whom she guest starred on both "Will & Grace" 1998 and "Friends") Jeff Goldblum and Liev Schreiber. She says: ""If I had one wish for myself, it would be to fall in love. That's asking for trouble, but that's the truth."
Wanted to be an actress since age 10 when she was cast in a community theatre production of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
Ranked #42 in Stuff magazine's "102 Sexiest Women in the World" (2002).
Was the only one of the four actresses of "Sex and the City" (1998) not to get an Emmy nomination until 2004. She saw her three co-stars frequently nominated, but finally scored an Emmy nomination for the show's final season.
Had a no-nudity clause in her contract, but accidentally appeared nude in "Sex and the City" (1998). In a bedroom scene when she stripped off her nightie the camera was supposed to stay above her breasts, but the shot was framed wrong and both of her nipples appeared in the shot. She didn't find out about this until the episode aired. She appeared nude only once more during the run of the show, although in a wide, non-revealing shot.
She is the only of the 4 main actresses from "Sex and the City" (1998) to guest-star on "Friends".
