Gérard Xavier Marcel Depardieu, CQ (born 27 December 1948, pronunciation (help·info)) is an Academy Award-nominated French actor.

His most significant English-language productions are Green Card with Andie MacDowell and 1492: Conquest of Paradise.

He first married Elisabeth (née Guignot), with whom he had 2 children. Guillaume and Julie. He has also a daughter, Roxanne, with Karine Sylla. He later had an affair with actress Carole Bouquet from 1997 to 2004.

Depardieu is the highest-paid actor in France.^{[citation needed]} Depardieu contributed spoken word vocals on the song "I'll Strangle You" for French producer Hector Zazou's 1992 album Sahara Blue. The album featured lyrics based on the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud. Depardieu is also the favorite actor and a personal friend of Cuban president Fidel Castro. [1]
