Edison Chen Kwoon-Hei (Simplified Chinese: 陈冠希; Traditional Chinese: 陳冠希; pinyin: Chén Guānxī; born October 7, 1980, in Vancouver, Canada) is a Chinese movie actor, pop star, and idol.
He was a student at R.C. Palmer Secondary School in Richmond, British Columbia in Canada and also attended High School in Hong Kong International School [1], however he didn't finish his high school career; dropping out after the completion of grade 11. Edison spent much of his life living in Vancouver and New York City, which contributes to his fluency in the English language.
A scout approached Edison while he was clubbing with friends in
Hong Kong and asked him to film a commercial. From then on, he was introduced into the Hong Kong entertainment circle where he immediately gained immense popularity for his attractive appearance and especially pashed by girls for his mischievous smile.
On March, 2004, two teenagers assaulted Chen in Hong Kong. He later recorded the song 嘥氣 (Waste of Breath), from his 2005 album, HAZY: The 144 Hour Project, describing the incident.
He has starred in many popular films including Infernal Affairs II, The Twins Effect, Initial D and Dog Bite Dog. Determined on expanding his horizons beyond Hong Kong, he also starred as the male lead in the Japanese drama "Under the Same Moon." Edison has released many Cantonese albums, and is currently working on a Mandarin album in which some songs are produced by American rapper Kanye West. He is currently featured on m-flo's new album Cosmicolor on the track "LOVE ME, HATE THE GAME" with Chan, Thaitanium and Ryohei.
Edison's foray into the fashion industry accompanied his rising success as a young pop icon. Edison is one of the founders of CLOT Inc., a clothing company described as a "lifestyle company" that is geared toward youth culture, and bringing street fashion to China and HK.
