Carson Jones Daly (born June 22, 1973 in Santa Monica, California) is an American television personality. He became known for being a host and VJ on MTV's Total Request Live. He currently hosts Last Call with Carson Daly on NBC.

Early life

Daly attended Santa Monica High School and wanted to become a priest.

His mother, exotic dancer and actress Pattie Caruso Daly, is the hostess of Valley Views, an entertainment-related public access television program in Palm Springs. Her set features several framed photographs of her son. She is a breast cancer survivor who was honored at Lifetime’s Breast Cancer Heroes Luncheon in 2004. She and Carson have become breast cancer activists.[1], [2] He has been spotted wearing Livestrong bracelets on numerous occasions.

His deceased father, J.D., was general sales manager of Harriman Ford.

On a golf scholarship, Daly studied theology at Loyola Marymount University and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Daly attended the university for one year, but changed direction after starting an internship at Palm Springs radio station KCMJ-FM under the alias of "Kid Carson", "The Avid Rabbit", "The Porcelain Dream", and "Riboflavin."

Career in Entertainment

By 1994, Daly was working at Live 105 (KITS) in San Francisco. In 1995, Daly was offered the coveted afternoon drive time slot at KOME in San Jose; his first assignment for the station was to cover the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards live from New York City. In 1996, Daly returned to the Los Angeles area as a DJ for popular Los Angeles rock radio station KROQ.

Carson also hosted the syndicated daily top-10 countdown Most Requested, which aired on primarily Top 40 radio stations. Most Requested is now defunct.

In 1997, Daly first appeared on MTV as a "video jockey",or VJ, and the following year he became the host of Total Request Live (TRL). He began a talk show in 2002, called Last Call with Carson Daly, which airs late-night on NBC. In 2003, Daly stepped down from TRL to concentrate on Last Call, because most of the time there were others filling in for him.

In 2000, Daly provided a guest voice for the animated Daria telemovie Is It Fall Yet?.

Daly is also an executive producer (with David Friedman) and owner of his own company, Carson Daly Productions. Back in November 2005, Daly hired Ruth Caruso as head of development for his company. The company is a client of Rick Rosen, a professional writing agent based out of Los Angeles.

Personal

Carson Daly's height is 6-foot-2.

Daly's highly publicized engagement to actress Tara Reid ended in 2001.

A burglary of Daly's home, allegedly by an obsessed female fan, resulted in the theft of personal items such as clothes, awards, and photographs. An arrest was made when the unnamed person attempted to auction stolen boxer shorts on eBay.

He used to have a tattoo of the word "love" on his ankle, in reference to his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Love Hewitt. In 2005, Daly stated on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno that he let his tattoo artist decide what image should be used to cover the word "love". He ended up with a tattoo of an open Swiss Army Knife with a crab leg instead of a blade, a tattoo that the artist had supposedly wanted to try for a long time.

He has also been linked to pop-singers Willa Ford and Christina Aguilera.^{[citation needed]}

In early to mid 2005 he lost a significant amount of weight and subsequently looked much thinner, especially in his face. [3]

He played against Tiger Woods in a local L.A. golf tournament, which Daly won. Woods made guest appearances on TRL and Last Call.

His favorite movie is Charlie's Angels. He claims to have seen God while watching it.

• In a 2001 issue of Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter Parker, as Spider-Man, was captured by the organized crime boss Kingpin. When Fisk asked him who he was working for, Parker responded, "Carson Daly." After Fisk had his henchman throw Parker through a window, he asked them, "Find this Carson Daly person and destroy him."
• Comedian Jimmy Fallon impersonated Daly on Saturday Night Live. Popular catch phrases of Fallon as Daly hosting Total Request Live included: "Hi, I'm Carson Daly and I'm a massive tool", "Hi, I'm Carson Daly and I'm average in every way", and "Hi, I'm Carson Daly and I wear these glasses to look smart."
• In the song The Real Slim Shady, rapper Eminem writes "Shit, Christina Aguilera better switch me chairs so I can sit next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst and hear 'em argue over who she gave head to first."
• During a performance of the above at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000, Eminem, walking through the celebrity audience, spotted and shook hands with Daly, almost immediately after reciting the line.
• In the song "Five Tweezy", rapper KJ-52 writes "I thought we were friends Carson Daly."
• In the US sitcom "My Name Is Earl", Daly is featured on the television of the pilot episode, talking about the Buddhist concept of karma.
• In Celebrity Deathmatch, a parody of Carson Daly is the host of a match between Eminem and Kid Rock. Later, Kid Rock's backup, Joe C, rips out Carson's intestines because of a comment he made.
• He was depicted again in Celebrity Deathmatch in a fight against talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. He won this fight.
• An avid golfer, he was publicly annoyed at having been left off Golfer Magazine's list of Top 100 celebrity Golfers. He said to his audience at one show, "All I do is this and play golf. When I'm not hosting this show, I'm out playing golf and I don't even do this that well."
• Canadian radio station CFBT-FM (The Beat 94.5) has a morning radio host named Kid Carson. His personality, name and wit is somewhat identical to Daly.
