Katrina Laverne Taylor (born December 3, 1978 in Miami, Florida), better known by her stage name Trina, is an African-American rap artist. She, like many other Miami rappers, comes from Liberty City, the same place as Trick Daddy.
CareerTrina's career started when she made her first appearance on Trick Daddy's www.thug.com album, with the song Nann Nigga. In 2000, Trina released her first solo album entitled "Da Baddest Bitch" with the hit single Da Baddest Bitch.
Released October 2005, Trina's third album was Glamorest Life. This third installment from Trina failed to go Gold, selling only 389,000 copies. Don't Trip featuring Lil' Wayne was released as the lead which at the time managed to gain interested in the press because of her at the time rumored relationship with the rapper. The second single released from "Glamorest Life" was her hit single Here We Go. The track featured Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland. "Here We Go" became Trina's first Top 40 single since her debut in 1998. While the album debuted higher than her other released the album failed to make an impact, and quickly fell off the charts. Da Club featuring Mannie Fresh was among several singles the record label planned to release, however those plans were later scrapped when Trina began working on her fourth installment to her discography. In 2005, Trina released her first perfume called "Diamond Princess". The item is available only through her website. Shortly after "Diamond Princess" was released Trina severed ties with Atlantic Records. In November, 2006 rumors surfaced that Trina had signed a recording contract with Terror Squad. Terror Squad was founded by rapper Fat Joe. If rumors concerning the relationship between Terror Squad and Trina are true, Trina will fill the female-gap left after Remy Ma left the group due to tensions between herself and Fat Joe. The Terror Squad record label is currently in ties with Virgin Records.
Trina can currently be heard on the remix to Akon's I Wanna Love You. ControversyTrina does however continue to be recognized as a commercially successful rapper. Trina is also known as 'Queen of the South'. While this title is disputed by some, most agree that she is the most widely known southern female rap artist. In 2001, Trina’s sexuality was brought to the forefront of rap music after rumors circulated that Missy Elliott and Trina began a relationship while producing Trina’s Diamond Princess album.[citation needed] The situation was addressed in interviews, as well as the introduction to Missy Elliott’s song Gossip Folks. Both artist state the rumor is untrue. In 2006 Trina and Khia have exchanged diss records, "What's Beef" and "Hit Her Up", respectively. Khia stated that she doesn't like Trina's rapping style. Many fans believe the feud between Khia and Trina began after Khia grew jealous of Trina's continued success. There also had been an issue with her and fellow Florida rapper Jacki-O because both claim to be the "Queen of the South" but the two have officially ended the feud and there have been rumors about a possible collaboration between the two artists. Diamond Princess FranchiseTrina has an up and coming artist, Mathis Cousan who's self-titled debut album is expected to be released on her new Diamond Princess record label. Trina's exclusive perfume entitled "Diamond Princess" was launched in the Summer of 2005. The perfume retails between $45, and $55(USD). Box set pricing varies between $47 and $85(USD.) In 2006, Trina launched her non-profit organization the Diamond Doll Foundation:
