Thomas Doane Chambers (born June 21, 1959 in Ogden, Utah) is former star NBA professional basketball player at the power forward position. He attended the University of Utah. The 6'10" Chambers was a key member of the strong Phoenix Suns teams of the late 1980s and early 90s. 'Tommy Gun' would combine with all-star point guard Kevin Johnson to run a pick-and-roll play that would often account for a good third of the teams points. Chambers played for the Suns for five seasons, having his best point production in 1989-90 (averaging 27.2 points a contest).
After five seasons with the Suns, he spent two in the twilight of his career with his home state Utah Jazz. In the 1995-96 season he played for Israeli Champions Maccabi Tel-Aviv. His arrival was a big event in Israel, but Chambers did not have the best of seasons. Most notable was the game against Spanish side Barcelona, when he shot 0 out of 14 from the field, including one missed dunk. He scored only two points that game, from the free-throw line (2-of-4). Maccabi won the Israeli Championship, but lost the Cup. Chambers left Israel and returned to the USA. Chambers also played limited minutes in 12 games with the Charlotte Hornets in 1996-97 and ten minutes in a game for the Philadelphia 76ers in 1997-98, scoring six points. Chambers ranks #29 all-time in total (regular season) points scored in the NBA with 20,049 in 1,107 games, for 18.1 points per game average. He also averaged 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in the regular season over his career.
