The Family of Blood is an episode of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It will be broadcast on BBC One on 26 May 2007,^[1] and is the ninth episode of Series 3 of the revived Doctor Who series. It will be the second episode of a two-part story, written by Paul Cornell, who also wrote Father's Day for the new series.

Plot

The overall plot of this story is taken from the novel Human Nature, and is located in the daunting setting of a boarding school on the cusp of the First World War. The Doctor is taken to places he's never been before, and experiences human feelings he never thought possible. However, there is a chill in the air, and mysterious lights hovering in the sky...

Production

• Executive producer Julie Gardner has confirmed that this story has links to Paul Cornell's 1995 Doctor Who novel Human Nature, published by Virgin Publishing as part of their Virgin New Adventures series.^[2] Several characters in the television story share names with those in the novel, including Joan, Tim, Hutchinson, Rocastle and Lucy.
• In "Jo Whiley meets Doctor Who", an episode of the BBC Radio 1 programme The Jo Whiley Show, it was confirmed that some filming was taking place in a village hall. It also stated that the episode will feature monsters known as "Jack Straws".^[3]
• In the commentary for The Runaway Bride, David Tennant speaks about filming in St. Fagan's Museum of Welsh Life for these episodes before they stopped filming for Christmas.
• On 29 March 2007, in an interview on The Graham Norton Show, Tennant said that the Doctor "doesn't not get married" in this episode.^[4]
