Plot

Thomas Beckett (Berenger) is an experienced U.S. Marine sniper. After losing several spotters in combat missions, he is paired up with the contrastingly inexperienced Richard Miller (Zane) to eliminate a Panamanian drug lord.

Miller is a SWAT team sharpshooter but lacks combat experience and has no confirmed kills to his name. As well as providing the action of the mission, the film focuses on the relationship between the two men and how their differing backgrounds affect their approaches to the job in hand.

Trivia

• The weapons used are: M40 by Beckett, an SR9T by Miller, and an SVD Dragunov by the enemy sniper.
• Billy Zane plays as commando Richard Miller, which coincidentally inspires naming VSSE agent Richard Miller from Time Crisis games.

Sequels

Sniper spawned two sequels. The TV movie Sniper 2 in 2003 and the direct to video Sniper 3 in 2004.
