Ryan Key (born December 17, 1979) is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of pop punk band Yellowcard. Key's nicknames are RyRy, RyGuy, Mr.Key and Daddy Key.
Early LifeBorn William Ryan Key, Key lived in Jacksonville, Florida, and started playing guitar at age 13. He attended Episcopal High School of Jacksonville before transferring to Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, from which he graduated. He then attended Florida State University but dropped out. During this time he sang in a Jacksonville band called Modern Amusement (who subsequently broke up in 1998). He next moved to Santa Cruz, California along with Dan McLintock of Inspection 12 to join Craig's Brother but moved back to Jacksonville after less than a year in CB.
Music and CareerBy this time, some of Key's high school friends from Douglas Anderson had formed the band Yellowcard, and when the original lead singer Ben Dobson left, Key was invited by lead guitarist Ben Harper to join. Key convinced the rest of the band to migrate to Ventura County, California.
Key stars in numerous music videos including "Powder", "Way Away," "Ocean Avenue," "Only One," "Lights and Sounds," and most recently "Rough Landing, Holly", which he claims to be his personal favorite. Key san a duet with Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines for the single "How I Go." The song "How I Go" is based on the movie Big Fish.
Beyond YellowcardKey was recently seen at a Metal Skool concert with Kelly Clarkson. The pair were invited on-stage and sang along to "Sweet Child Of Mine." Key currently resides in Los Angeles, living at Ryan Cabrera's house, but he soon moved out. His ex-girlfriend, Tasha-Ray Evin, is the singer of the band Lillix[citation needed]. But as of March 31, 2007, Key is single. During Yellowcard's appearance at the Tempe Music Festival, Key said, "I forgot how fucking radical it is to be single and playing in Arizona. You have some hot women here." Key is widely recognized for his spiky blonde hair (which he dyes) and his lean and petite body. He is also known for running in his music videos, such as "Ocean Avenue" and "Rough Landing, Holly" In the movie Big Fish there is an actress Alison Lohman. Key told Session@AOl that he had a crush on Lohman. He said she is a beautiful young actress. He had also said pop singer Kelly Clarkson looked really hot in her wedding dress for the song "Behind These Hazel Eyes." TriviaKey's height is 5'9 and weighs about 150 pounds. His shoe size is a Men's eight. Key also has broken his jaw. He broke it because his band mate Sean Mackin punched him in the face. Sean quoted " If you hit me, I'll hit you back". Referring to Ryan Key. He wears contacts and sometimes wears his glasses. Key also smokes and drinks. He has a red tattoo on his left wrist that says "The World has turned and left me here." On his right arm he has a Spiderman and the a Green Goblen tattoo. Key has also had throat surgery do to a cist in the throat. Before joining Yellowcard he wanted to become an actor. Key also has a bulldog named Otis. Before becoming famous he and his friend/band mate worked at Chili's. Key and the rest of Yellowcard are huge Star Wars fans. His favorite movies are all of the Star Wars movies and The God Father. Key is also a Sagittarius. Key's Pet Peeve is people who don't know how to merge onto a freeway. Key's tour must have his St. Christopher Medal. Key also wears a ring on his finger, but he is not married. In many of his songs he talks about his future wife and son.
