Razaaq Adoti, sometimes credited as Raz Adoti, is a London born, Nigerian actor.

Biography

Charismatic actor Razaaq Adoti will next be seen in Director Bill Duke's upcoming feature titled Cover. The movie will be released by Fox at the end of 2007. Raz was most recently seen on the big screen in Haven (2006) as “Richie Rich,” his second movie with Orlando Bloom. The movie also stars Bill Paxton and was written and directed by Frank E. Flowers. His previous cinematic release was Universal Pictures Doom (2005), in which he stars opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Born in London, England to Nigerian parents, Razaaq Adoti (a.k.a. Raz) is the second oldest of five. After graduating high school, Raz decided to attend college to pursue a career in the performing arts. Raz’s first intention was to work behind the scenes as a cameraman, but fell in love with the stage instead. After his first year in college, at the age of 17, Raz landed his first job in theater. That segued into his first appearance on TV in the U.K. the popular childrens drama titled Press Gang.

Before graduating Raz was cast as “Nathan Detroit” in the National Youth and Music Theatre Company’s (NYMT) production of Guys and Dolls (past students of NYMT include Jude Law and Johnny Lee Miller). The tour took Raz to Japan, the Edinburgh fringe Festival and numerous other places in Europe. That same summer of 1991, he secured a part in NYMT’s production of the opera Aesop, which won a Fringe First Award. At just 18, Raz had discovered his passion.

To add to his elation, in 1992 he was accepted to train at the prestigious “Central School of Speech and Drama,” (former students include Sir Laurence Olivier, Dame Judi Dench and Vanessa Redgrave, to name a few.) At CSSD, Raz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in acting. Upon graduation, he was signed by one of London’s most reputable talent agencies and his professional career was truly underway.

Having spent his acting career thus far almost exclusively on stage, he had profound desire to further his craft on the big screen as much of his inspiration came from the performances of Hollywood greats like Marlon Brando. Within a year of leaving drama school Raz’s dream came true in 1997 when he was cast in a major supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s new epic Amistad. He was humbled to be a part of the distinguished cast assembled to chronicle a very important chapter in American history. The ensemble included: Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman and Matthew McConaughey to name a few. That year was a huge learning experience for Raz who really began to see the world for its possibilities.

After completing Amistad, he returned to London with new found determination. He worked on various TV and film projects. In 2001 Hollywood came calling again and this time, Raz was given the chance to work with another Oscar-winning director, Ridley Scott. The movie was Black Hawk Down in which played the main antagonist “Yousuf Dahir Mo'alim.” Since then he has gone on to co-star in director Paul Anderson’s Resident Evil: Apocalypse opposite Milla Jovovich.

Raz’s past TV credits include Sky One’s award-winning television drama “Dream Team,” BBC’s BAFTA award-winning mini series best drama “Holding On, ITV’s award-winning television drama, “Soldier Soldier,” and Channel 4’s controversial mini-series “Men Only.” to name a few.

Raz is passionate about motorcycles and whenever he can, he loves hitting the open road. He is a certified diver, plays in a U.S. soccer league and enjoys going to the opera.

Raz currently resides in Los Angeles.
