Piper Lisa Perabo (born October 31, 1976) is an American movie actress.
Perabo was born in Dallas, Texas[1] but grew up in Toms River, New Jersey. Her father, George William Perabo, is Portuguese and her mother, Mary Charlotte Ulland, is Norwegian American.[2] Her brothers, Noah and Adam, are also actors. She graduated high school from Toms River High School North. Perabo next graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University (in Athens, Ohio) in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting.
Piper would have been named India Star, until her parents chose to name her after the classic actress,
Piper Laurie.
Before starring in any movies, Piper displayed her acting talent performing in stage productions of Arms and the Man, Trinity, Antigone, Fool for Love, Kindertransport, and Our Town.
In high school, she appeared in all four yearly musicals. Her senior year, she was Katie in "Meet Me In St. Louis"; junior year, Cousin Fan in "Mame"; sophomore year, Lady Brighton in "Me and My Girl"; and freshman year, a dancer in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." She was also president of the National Honor Society and the editor of the school literary magazine, Polaris.

Career
2000 was a big year for Perabo: she was cast in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle as one of the lead characters, FBI agent Karen Sympathy. The break-out role that got wide recognition and shot her into the public eye was in Coyote Ugly, where she played Violet Sanford aka "Jersey," who moves to New York to pursue her dream of becoming a songwriter. She had to take lessons in voice, guitar, piano and bartending to prepare for the role. Despite the movie doing poorly with the critics, it was a modest box-office success,grossing $61 millon in the U.S, and she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Music Moment for "One Way or Another."
In 2001, she starred in an independent Canadian movie called
Lost and Delirious, playing a boarding school student who falls in love with a girl. The next year she starred as a French exchange student in
Slap Her... She's French, which was shelved in North America for two years, then released under the new title
She Gets What She Wants. The film was released under its original title in Europe. In 2003, she had a small role as the eldest daughter in
Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) which she reprised in
its 2005 sequel.
Other recent movies include The i Inside (2003), Perfect Opposites (2004), George and the Dragon (2004), The Cave (2005) (where she co-starred with Lena Headey, also her costar of Imagine Me and You), Imagine Me & You (2005), Edison (2005), and The Prestige (2006).
Personal life
Perabo graduated from Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College in 1998 with a BFA in Theater. After she graduated from OU, Piper studied acting at the LaMama Theater in New York and had small roles in two plays. She was a waitress in New York City at an upscale restaurant until she was discovered. She has one younger brother. Perabo likes classical music and literature. She enjoys fishing and often eats what she catches. [2]. She has previously dated actor Andrew Keegan and Matthew Perry from Friends.
