Biography
Early life
Haas was born in West Hollywood, California, the son of Berthold Haas, a painter, and singer/songwriter Emily Tracy. He has twin brothers, Simon Jakoway, an accomplished artist, and Nikolai Johannes Haas, a musician. At the age of five, he was discovered in his kindergarten by casting director Marjorie Simkin.
Career
Haas first became known for his role as an
Amish child who witnesses a murder in the
Harrison Ford film
Witness and 1983 movie
Testament, playing one of the children; he later played the title role in the TV film
The Ryan White Story. By his teenage years, he appeared with
Jessica Lange in the
Music Box, and
Steve Martin in
Leap of Faith (1992). He was also in the play
Waiting for Godot with
Steve Martin and
Robin Williams.
Haas was a guest-star in the fourth season of 24 which premiered in January 2005. His more recent work includes Gus van Sant's Last Days, Rian Johnson's Brick, and Nick Cassavetes' Alpha Dog. He just completed filming Who Loves the Sun alongside Molly Parker and Adam Scott. Haas is now filming The Tripper as Ivan, and Gardener of Eden as Adam.
Personal life
Haas is also a musician and has a MySpace Music page which features four songs, including "Kemp", and "In Between". He plays the drums and piano for a band called The Rogues. He has appeared in
My Chemical Romance's music video for "
Welcome to the Black Parade," in which he plays the role of a patient. Haas also has a cameo in
OutKast's music video for "
Roses," where he portrays the role as one of the Love Below members.
