LensCrafters is North America's largest retailer of prescription eyewear, as well as non-prescription sunglasses. LensCrafters was founded in 1983 and has subsequently expanded to over 850 stores in Canada, the United States, and Puerto Rico. The stores usually feature independent optometrists on-site (or in adjacent store), and are well known for their quick in-store turnaround, allowing for customers to walk in, obtain an eyeglass prescription, select frames, and have their glasses made during a single visit, with about a one-hour wait for construction. They maintain corporate headquarters near Cincinnati, Ohio along with Sunglass Hut International, but in fact both firms are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Italian-based Luxottica.
