"Kiss the Girl" is an Academy Award-nominated song from Disney's 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid, composed by Alan Menken with lyrics by Howard Ashman. In the film, the song was performed by Samuel E. Wright. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song simultaneously with another song from the film, "Under the Sea", which eventually won the award.

Peter André performed a remix version of the song in
1998, where it got to number 9 in the UK Singles Chart.
In
2006, when
The Little Mermaid was re-released on DVD as a 2-Disc Platinum Edition, another rendition of
the song was recorded, this time performed by
Ashley Tisdale. The song was first heard on Radio Disney on
September 4,
2006, and the music video premiered on
September 6,
2006 on
Disney Channel immediately following an episode of the
sitcom The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, as well as being featured on the DVD itself. It will also be included on
DisneyMania 5, which will be released on
March 27,
2007.
Reaction
In the first week of
April 2007, Tisdale's version of "Kiss the Girl" managed to enter Billboard's Bubbling Under Singles at #16 (#116). This is due to the release of
DisneyMania 5 and downloads on
iTunes.
