House of Wax is a 2005 horror film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It is a loose remake of the 1953 movie of the same name starring Vincent Price and the 1933 film, Mystery of the Wax Museum. It was released to theaters May 6, 2005, and to DVD on October 25, 2005.

Synopsis

Carly (Elisha Cuthbert) and her boyfriend, Wade (Jared Padalecki), have hit the road with a handful of their friends to attend a championship college football game; tagging along with them are Carly's bratty friend Paige (Paris Hilton), Carly's trouble-making twin brother Nick (Chad Michael Murray), Nick's annoying but funny best friend Dalton (Jon Abrahams), and Blake (Robert Ri'chard), Paige's latest boy toy. While camping out for the night, the gang makes the mistake of getting on the wrong side of a mysterious local redneck, and the next morning they discover that Wade's car no longer works. As the others continue on to the big game, Carly and Wade make their way into the closest town, Ambrose, and discover it's all but deserted, except for a local tourist attraction, the titular House of Wax. Meanwhile Paige and her boy toy Blake make love which was however interrupted by the freak killer. However, it isn't long before they find out why the wax sculptures at the museum look so freakishly real, and discover a pair of murderous brothers are keen on making them part of the next exhibit.

The teenagers spend the entire movie running from the brothers until eventually all are killed except for Carly and Nick. There is a big showdown in the wax museum, climaxing in the death of the murderous brothers and the destruction of the entire museum. Finally, when Carly and Nick are rescued it is revealed that there were actually three brothers, sons of the wax artist who founded the town. On the way out of the town, they spot the driver who had tried to warn them away at the beginning. Could it be him?

• Wade; His Achilles Tendon cut, Vincent stabs in the upper rib before turning him into a wax sculpture. Finally dies when Vincent slices half his face off while in the wax.
• Dalton; Decapitated with two knives by Vincent before being covered in wax.
• Blake; Stabbed in the neck (off-screen) and dies when Vincent pushes the knife deeper into his neck
• Paige; Impaled through the head with a piece of jagged pipe after a long chase scene
• Bo; Beaten to death with a baseball bat by Carly
• Vincent; Stabbed in the stomach by Carly and falls through the floor, landing on Bo,jabbing the knife deeper and the only to drown in the wax

• In an alternate opening scene on the DVD, there is a new character in the movie named as Jennifer (Emma Lung) who is stuck in the middle of the road after her car supposedly broke down. As she calls for help and walks into the road, a mysterious truck appears in the road (it is obviously one of the brothers) and before she can do anything, the car chases her at full-speed, as a hand reaches out and grabs her by the hair - and then proceeds to throw her into the windshield of her car - instantly killing her.

Box office

Opening in 3,111 theaters, the movie grossed a moderate $12 million in its first three days. Though most critics were not impressed, House of Wax earned a decent $68,766,121 worldwide. 46.6% of that total came from domestic receipts. It also earned $42,000,000 in Vhs/DVD rentals according to Rottentomatoes.

Lawsuit

In January 2006 it was announced by Warner Roadshow studio owners Village Theme Park Management and Warner World Australia that they were suing special effects expert David Fletcher and Wax Productions because of a fire on the set during production.

The $7 million lawsuit alleges that the Mr. Fletcher and Wax Productions were grossly negligent over the fire which destroyed part of the Gold Coast's Warner Roadshow studios. The alleged grounds of negligence included not having firefighters on stand-by and using timber props near a naked flame.
