Glenn Quagmire (spelled Glen on some occasions but usually called Quagmire) is a character on the animated series, Family Guy. He is voiced by the show's creator and lead writer, Seth MacFarlane, who describes Quagmire as a "disgusting human being". His catchphrase is "Giggity giggity goo" (and variants thereof), usually said whenever something sexual is mentioned or if a sexual situation occurs. He is a close friend of main character Peter Griffin.

Appearance
Quagmire has short black hair, parted in the middle; he is of average height and somewhat slight build. His most noticeable physical characteristics are his enormous jaw and chin, and his long nose. Another identifying feature is the tattoo on his left buttock reading "Your face here! Call 555-0143". He is usually seen wearing a red Hawaiian shirt with yellow flowers, a pair of blue jeans and a leopard skin thong. He also often wears a light blue flamboyant tuxedo and red bow tie. His pubic hair is shaven into the shape of an "O" leaving his penis hanging to make the line creating a "Q".
Ethics and sexual deviancy
Of the many gags associated with Quagmire, most if not all feature his sexual exploits, tendencies, and
fetishes. These are often hinted at or stated outright as being above and beyond what many would consider "normal;" indeed, Quagmire's sexual tendencies often lean towards the criminal. Various gags throughout the show have suggested that his "diverse" sexual appetite includes
incest,
rape,
bestiality, and
necrophilia. He is shown on the verge of engaging in sexual activity with his mother twice, suggesting that this is a regular occurrence for him. He has made references to
prostituting himself to fat women. ("Fat chicks need love too... but they gotta pay.") Some gags suggest that he is a registered
sex offender. For instance, in the episode "
Emission Impossible", Peter takes his children,
Chris,
Meg, and
Stewie to Quagmire's house. Quagmire says "Well, in accordance with
Megan's Law, I'm obligated to inform you, uh..you know what, that's fine, I'll take the kids." Peter has referred to Quagmire as a "heartless sex hound".
He seems to have little interest in long-term relationships with women. When one of his partners casually asked what he did for a living after waking up in bed beside him, Quagmire cheerfully responded with "Hey, I've got a question for you too: why are you still here?" On a Family Guy DVD featurette, MacFarlane says that he believes this to be Quagmire's "defining moment". However, in "I Take Thee Quagmire", Quagmire actually falls in love and marries a woman named Joan, Peter's temporary maid. He eventually realizes he made a mistake, and tries to get a divorce, a scheme which ultimately leads to Joan's death
On one occasion Quagmire has shown sympathetic tendencies towards another person. In "Barely Legal" where Meg had an unhealthy preoccupation with family dog Brian, Quagmire said that he knew exactly what she needed and to bring her by his house later that night. While Quagmire initially stripped down to leopard print underwear, he then proceeded to tell Meg that she didn't need to grow up so fast. Quagmire also gave her a copy of Shel Silverstein's The Missing Piece, and sent her home untouched.
Name
The word quagmire refers to both a soft soil that yields easily (such as quicksand) and a mess or hopeless chaos. In the latter sense, Quagmire's name is a clear reference to his seeming polymorphous sexuality. The title of a Family Guy episode from Season Four, dealing with infidelity, plays up the second meaning ("The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire"). However, his full name is Glenn Quagmire.
Job
In the episode "Love Thy Trophy", Quagmire's job is revealed to be a pilot. Also, in the episode "I Never Met The Dead Man", Peter asks him whats he doing and he says "I'm going to work" at the time he was wearing a pilots uniform. In the episode "Airport '07", he loses his job when he has to crash land his flight, the first time viewers actually see him doing his job as a 767 Captain for TransNational Airlines.
