Dreamcatcher (2003) is a movie adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name. It was directed by Lawrence Kasdan, cowritten by Kasdan and screenwriter William Goldman and featured Morgan Freeman as Colonel Abraham Curtis, a shoot-first alien hunter, Thomas Jane as Dr. Henry "Hank" Devlin, Donnie Wahlberg as Douglas "Duddits" Cavell, Jason Lee as Joe "Beaver" Clarenden, Timothy Olyphant as Peter "Petey" Moore, Damian Lewis as Gary "Jonesy" Jones and C. Ernst Harth as Barry Neiman.
Plot
Jonesy, Henry, Pete and Beaver are bonded by friendship... and by the strange powers each acquired on a fateful day after rescuing "
Duddits" from a group of bullies in their childhood. But now after 20 years a horrific entity is putting their friendship and powers to the test, and some of the four will die. And some will save the world from a menace unlike anything ever seen.
Relation to the book
The basic content of the movie very closely followed the original book, but the ending of the film did vary from Stephen King's original ending in the book. Duddits has a slightly different role at the finale of the film which serves to explain why he was dying when the boys encounter him as adults.
