Bond 22 is the working title of a future EON Productions' James Bond film to follow the 2006 film, Casino Royale. It will be the 22nd official film in the James Bond franchise and the second to star Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's British secret agent, James Bond. The film will be produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and will be released worldwide by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer & Columbia Pictures. Originally scheduled for a May 2 2008 release,[1] it has been pushed back to November 7 2008 to give the producers more time to complete the film.[2] Pre-production work on Bond 22 was already under way before filming of Casino Royale began in January 2006, according to an announcement by Michael G. Wilson during a news conference in London on October 14 2005. In a November 17, 2006 interview with the BBC it was confirmed that Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who had previously written the screenplays for The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, and Casino Royale, would also be working on Bond 22.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
Broccoli also confirmed that Bond 22 would be a continuation of Casino Royale. Daniel Craig may have hinted at the direction of Bond 22 when he stated that the events of Casino Royale would lead Bond to "go out for revenge".[5] If true, Bond 22 would be the first true 007 sequel (previous films have been linked, such as Dr. No and From Russia With Love or On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever, but this would be the first original sequel). Eva Green has stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Vesper's French-Algerian boyfriend mentioned in Casino Royale may be the villain in Bond 22. It is also possible she may return in a flashback/video scene.[6] Matthew Klark told Italian newspaper Il Giornale that he will be reprising his role of Rene Mathis in Casino Royale. He further disclosed that Mathis will be revealed to be an ally of James Bond, and will use his status as a double agent to help Bond find the mastermind of the organisation that Mr White and Le Chiffre worked for.[7] Writers Purvis and Wade have stated that it is unlikely that Q will make a return after his absence in Casino Royale. However, Miss Moneypenny may make a return.[4]

Confirmed Cast
Crew rumoursA report attributed to the Daily Mail claimed that playwright Tom Stoppard is in talks to join in on writing the script. Stoppard is currently co-writing the script for The Bourne Ultimatum. [10] A July 2006 report by The Hollywood Reporter stated that Bond 22 would be based on an original idea by producer Michael G. Wilson who previously co-scripted every official Bond film of the 1980s, For Your Eyes Only (1981) through Licence to Kill (1989), and that they are looking for a writer to adapt. A report in August 2006 by MI6.co.uk stated that Love Actually screenwriter, Richard Curtis, is rumoured to be writing Bond 22. [11] This, as well the previous rumours suggest that regular Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been dropped from the project, although these reports contradict the October 2005 press conference where Wilson stated that Bond 22 would be written by Purvis and Wade. It is, however, possible that EON Productions is searching for another screenwriter to polish or do some rewrites, such as Paul Haggis did with Casino Royale. Roger Michell, known for directing Notting Hill, was said to be in contract negotiations to direct, per reports by the Daily Mail and The Hollywood Reporter.[12] However, Variety reported that negotiations had fallen through.[13] Michell, who had previously worked with Daniel Craig on Enduring Love and The Mother, cited shooting the film so soon as his reason for walking out.[14] Michell later stated that the script was the main reason for the split, "We couldn’t find a way of making us all happy with the script. It’s been through various drafts, but I just decided to say no before I got too far into it". [15] Martin Campbell appears not to be returning now following his announcement at the opening of Casino Royale in China.[16] On November 9, 2006 Amy Winehouse announced she had been approached by one of the producers of the James Bond movies to sing the main theme of Bond 22.[17] Other rumoursAston Martin may not be supplying James Bond's new car in the film due to Ford putting the company up for sale.[18] Ford has a three-film deal that began with 2002's Die Another Day. Jaguar is speculated to be a replacement with the new Jaguar C-XF design.[19] Video game adaptationIn May 2006 Activision acquired non-exclusive rights to develop and publish James Bond games; an exclusive deal with Activision takes effect in September 2007. During an earnings report, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision, announced that their first Bond game would be released in May 2008.[20] Previously it was reported by Variety that Activision's first game would be a tie-in to Bond 22.[21] Due to Bond 22's delay, it is likely this game will also be delayed until November of 2008.
