Aria [DVD] [1987] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
starring: Carlo Bergonzi, Jussi Bjoerling, Bertrand Bonvoisin, Cris Campion, Anne Canovas

Don't get too excited about the fact that Elizabeth Hurley is in this DVD. Quite frankly she is a whole lot better looking now and her acting is embarassing especially when she mouths the words of the aria - not convincing in a million years. The directors were given free rein in deciding what to produce from their choice of aria. It is a pity they didn't discuss between them their ideas as several decided to make the film about a car crash. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen in this sequence of films and in the end thought it was a waste of time and in particular money. The one about the body builders and the women fawning over them was especially ludicrous, does anyone know what it means?

I really looked forward to this DVD, being an opera lover myself but it is not what it is cracked up to be. Rent it if you must but dont buy it unless you are really sure.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - aria
picture quality and sound excellent, presumably remastered.
the bonus features interviews with some of the directors, but ignores or omits mention of others e.g.Bruce Beresford.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Must Have Classic
This is a must have. Major directors, major music pieces, excellently threaded together. I first watched Aria on VHS videotape 20 years ago and lost the tape. Now Ive got it again! Can be watched over and over!
