Songcatcher
From AmericolaWiki
Songcatcher (dir. Maggie Greenwald, 2000) is a film about a musicologist researching and collecting Appalachian folk music in the mountains of western North Carolina. Although a fictional film, it is loosely based on the work of Olive Dame Campbell, founder of the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina.
The film stars Janet McTeer as musicologist Lily Penleric, Aidan Quinn as Tom Bledsoe, and Emmy Rossum as Deladis.
The film's vital soundtrack was co-produced by David Mansfield and T-Bone Burnett, ex-of The Alpha Band.
