Charlie Rose with Jonathan Klein; Saad Eddin Ibrahim (March 23, 2005)
Rating: -
The new CEO of CNN Jonathan Klein talks with Charlie Rose about the news business, CNN and his own new position. I was a bit disappointed by the interview because I think Klein fudged an answer to one central Charlie Rose question. It had to do with the popularity of Fox and its seeming to have stolen some of the fire from CNN. Klein did not give the obvious answer that Fox presents a completely different political line, one more conservative, supportive of the U.S. Klein seemed to suggest that CNN is a balanced, objective reliable news source. My impression is that it is not that objective and is often biased to the Left. He was complimented by Charlie Rose for their coverage of the Katerina disaster in New Orleans.
As to the whole question of where the news- business is going now that there are so many sources of news was not answered by Weiss in such a way as to give the faith that CNN will have in the future anything like the kind of audience- share and unique niche it had in its first years of operation.
