Exodus

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Always relevant.
This 40-year old film still seems timely today, with its depiction of the birth of the State of Israel and the ancient religious conflicts that still plague the Middle East. Although not one of Paul Newman's better performances (he seems wooden and distracted), the film shines in its emphasis on the waste that ideological war brings, and the common heritage that Jews and Arabs share. The film's length shows at times, but overall this is an excellent fictional portrayal of a part of the world and a people that have always had to fight for their very existence.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Its OK
I guess the movie fit the time it represented. It was dry and serious at best. I suppose it recreated a good representation of what was happening at the time: there wasn't much to cheer or laugh about, or even have any significant romance. A people's race was trying to survive in a world that did not want them. The ending was only a stark reminder that it was merely the beginning of something that hasn't ended even today.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Exodus
This film gives a true view of the Jewish plite during the mid 40's.

I rooted and cried during this film and I am not even a girl.
Thank the good Lord that this film is now on DVD.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Poor quality video transfer
I was disappointed with the quality of the video transfer. I'm not sure if the images started to get better half-way into the film, or my eyes just adjusted to the pixel problems. My son watched the first 15 minutes then he couldn't take the poor quality of the video and he gave up.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Birth of a Nation
This film is based on an outstanding novel by Leon Uris in which Paul Newman frees, tranports, and meets all challanges to establish a new State. It is nearly impossible to view this film and not be moved by the trials and tribulations of the Jewish race to have a country of thier own notwithstanding the negative attitude of the rest of the world that such a state is impossible. Keep your chin up and cheer on the underdog ! You'll be mighty glad in the end.
