The Eminem Show

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent Album - 4 1/2 stars
Where to begin? Eminem is a lyrical genious. His lyrics are amazing and he has great beats to match every song just right. This, along with the Slim Shady LP, and the Marshall Mathers LP is where his legend lies not with his Encore junk.

This album, I thought was more toned down than his previous ablum the Marshal Mathers LP, and his some of his lyrics were more about his life. (Ex. the kiss about Guerra whatever his name is, Sing For the Moment, Cleaning out my Closet, Saying Goodbye to Hollywood, etc.) So his songs range from fun, funny, tracks like Business and Without Me, to more personal tracks like Cleaning out my Closet. Here are a list of the tracks(not including the skits). I mark the hits with *.

White America: 4/5
Business: 4/5* Note: Good G funk tune.
Cleanin out my Closet: 3.5/5*
Square Dance: 4/5
Soldier: 3.5/5
Say Goodbye Hollywood: 3.5/5
Drips: 2/5
Without Me: 5/5* Note: Very funny and catch. It's the opening single.
Sing For the Moment: 4.5/5*
Superman: 3.5/5*
Halie's Song: 4/5 Note: If you like Mockingbird you'll like this.
When the Music Stops 2.5/5
Say What U Say: 3/5* Note: Good pace but a bit dumb. Not really hit worth.
Till I Collapse: 4/5 Note: Good Message
My Dad's Gone Crazy: 3.5/5 Note: Hilarious

I didn't like a couple of the skits but I loved most of the songs. Great album. A must have for an Eminem fan or rap lover. Hope you like it.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - LAME WHITE KID RUINS RAP
Oh boy, where to begin...Ok Eminem is some lame white kid who grew up in a wealthy suburban town with wealthy loving parents. Then this clown decided to dress like an african american and attempt to rap. And by rap I mean whine about how terrible his multi-million dollar life is. Boo Hoo I have fake mental problems and pretend my mom hates me! No suprise hundreds of lame rich white kids are buying his CDs and dressing like street hoodlums....then they go to college and become lawyers. What GANGSTAS!!! Go to the "ghetto" you won't see one person listening to this crap. Bottom Line: Eminem blows!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best show ever!
So "The Eminem Show" is probably my favorite solo album by Eminem. He focuses more on his own life, and less on controversial issues, resulting in a more mature sound. Although not as funny as the previous albums, this one reveals a deeper side of Marshall Mathers.

White America: A catchy tune stating "If I was black, I would of sold half". It basically says that being white is no longer a barrier in his career. 9.5/10

Business: A funny duo with Dre, crazy beat. 9/10

Cleaning Out My Closet: One of Eminem's best songs. A serious reflection of his childhood and adult life, containing accusations of his mother "poppin' prescription pills in the kitchen" and threatening that Hailie won't even be at her funeral. 10/10

Square Dance: Political song, referencing anthrax and drafts. Upbeat. 8.5/10

The Kiss: This is Eminem's reenactment of catching Kim kissing another guy. Although a skit, it leads nicely into Soldier. 10/10

Soldier: Despite all the fame surrounding him, negative publicity and pressures, Eminem continues forward until "the fire dies". 10/10

Saying Goodbye to Hollywood: Eminem hints at his unhappiness with his newfound fame. Though he is successful now, a part of him simply wants to quit. 10/10

Drips: The most graphic song, with Obie Trice's lyrics extremely obscene. Eminem's lyrics are alright, but the song is fictional and out of place. 7/10

Without Me: The necessary happy radio single. Similar to "My Name Is" and "The Real Slim Shady", though not simply repetitive. 9/10

Sing For the Moment: Lyrically, the best song by Eminem. He explains why people relate to hip-hop, and why he raps. Using an Aerosmith sample from "Dream On", Eminem also offers advice with "seize the moment, try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and hold it, cuz we consider these moments golden". 15/10

Superman: Another song featuring Dina Rae, and a personal favorite. Eminem talks about women and his attachment (or lack thereof) to those in his life. Check out the video. 15/10

Hailie's Song: Eminem sings in this song, thankful to finally have custody of his daughter again. "It all makes sense when I look into her eyes". 10/10

When the Music Stops: Featuring D12, and making fun of Mariah again. :) They talk about the blurred distinction between reality and music. 9/10

Say What You Say: Jermaine Dupri diss with Dre. 9.5/10

Till I Collapse: Awesome beat, with a catchy chorus by Nate Dogg. Em talks about his motivation to "get up and not be a quitter" 10/10

My Dad's Gone Crazy: Hailie sings in this one. The last verse is the best, talking about the various interpretations of his music and how he'll never bite his tongue. 10/10

Overall, The Eminem Show is most def five stars *****. The various skits, though some would say a waste of space, contribute greatly by adding to the story of Eminem. They help to make this one of the few albums you can listen to, start to finish, and hear so many different sounds and ideas. The Eminem Show really shows increasing skill and maturity, while still retaining the controversy you would expect from such an artist. This album provides hardcore proof that Eminem will be around much longer, and only leaves the listener wondering what he will come up with next.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - His best!
Of all of Eminem's albums, this one is his best. The beats on this album are outsatnding with Eminem's clear rapping, and good featured artists. The radio played "Without Me" is a good representation of the whole album- strong vocals, comedy within the music, ect. While some of the material is violent (especially towards his ex-wife) it is less than his first- Slim Shady. He seems to enjoy the "rap-game" and shows it thorugh this masterpiece of rap. Very few albums in this genre are better. The one down is the song feat. Obie Trice (who is not a bad rapper- see his Cheers CD) "Drips" which is somewhat obscene.
