Editorial Review:
Product Description: GERBER Carnivore Blood Tracking Light XP LED The Carnivore gets an upgrade this year with the new XP model. It's 150% brighter than the original Carnivore. It's three flashlights in one with our patented TRAX & trade blood tracking technology a red-light-only feature for preserving night vision and a 3-watt white Cree L.E.D. RealTree AP camo pattern. Four AA batteries included. RealTree AP™ camo sheath included. Mfg No: 22-80121 Manufacturer: Gerber Blades
I did some rerearch on this product and it got good reviews. It has an ergonomic feel in you hand and the buttons are intuitavely placed. It appears to be waterproof or very water resitant based upon the thick gaskets around the battery compartment (which I coated with silicone grease to make it truely waterproof).
Not really cons but I do have some questions:
1) What is that black Fastex looking clip used for? There are no directions.
2) Why does the case have a place to press a button on the body? Is the idea that you'd be walking around with the light on in the holster and be switching modes. That seems pretty far fetched.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality and design. I had the chance to test this recently and fresh red blood popped out from other colors. I did my tracking at dusk/night. I didn't have a chance to test it during the day yet. If somebody has a chance to test this in the daytime, I'd really like to know how it goes -- particularly in direct sunlight.
I compared this model to earlier versions and the LEDs are at least twice as bright. My fellow hunters agreed that this version is far superior to its predecessor. I am using lithium batteries because the shelf life is about 10 years. I've had alkaline batteries die after just a couple of years.
Instead of complaining about my review; why don't you leave some constructive criticism? Afterall, I don't write these reviews to piss people off and I want to make them better.
