I fully concur with Willy Wombat's review. We had the exact same experience while trying to program the remote for my 96 year old father. We were hoping to spare the nursing staff at the home the daily ordeal of trying to get his TV to work after he had messed it up using the remote that came with the set. We tried all the instructions and after an hour or so gave up because we never did find the "code". I called the RCA dealer where my dad had bought the TV set a few years ago hoping for some guidance and he told me that the word "universal" doesn't necessarily mean it will work with every set. The dealer was unable to provide me with a simple remote that would work because "RCA is being bought out by another company."

Bought this remote for elderly grandmother for simplicity. Great that is only has 6 buttons, however not good for those that need reading glasses or elderly with glaucoma. Great idea, bad design.

My elderly mom was frustrated by a complex remote, but this solves the problem. Only six buttons. I was concerned that the setup would take a while but as it turns out the code I selected was the right one and worked the first time.
Either the infrared receiver in my particular TV or the infrared signal from the device is not super strong and appears to be fairly directional so in my case one had to be within eight feet or so of the TV and pointing at the receiver for it to work well.
The buttons are very logically laid out and easy to push. However, the markings are low contrast.

Good Product for people who don't want to find their reading glasses. A better product for seniors would be larger with larger buttons. Buttons should have contrasting icons.

Keep your aged parent from reprogramming the remote every time they use it. No more struggling to decode the thing from French or Spanish or trying to figure out how the sound got turned off and the picture a hideous green. A God send!
But, then again, some days six buttons turn out to be five too many! Sigh!
